SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME


The National School Health Programme was launched in 1977 as Centrally sponsored scheme. In Mizoram it was started in 1978 in selected PHC only until 1990-1991. After the centrally sponsored was ended since 1991, the Programme was taken by the State. Since 1993-1994 the Programme was extended to all PHC, CHC where Medical Officer were posted and also in urban areas in Aizawl Town, Lunglei and Saiha. The Programme’s thrust is based on general health of the School going children and to take remedial measures and follow up. The Programme specially covers the Primary School Children.
A. State Level Co-ordination Committee:

2) E.O. to CE, PHED
3) E.O. to CE, P&E Dept.
4) Coordinator, School Health Programme
5) Nodal Officer, Mid-Day Meal, School Education.

B. Objective of the Programme:
1. To prepare younger generation to adopt measures to remain healthy so as to help them to make the best use of educational facilities to utilize in a productive and constructive manner, to enjoy recreation and to develop concern for others.
2. To help the younger generations to become healthy and useful citizens who will be able to perform their role effectively for the welfare of themselves, their families, the community at large and the country as a whole.
3. Promotion of positive health of School Children.
4. Prevention of disease.
5. Early diagnosis/treatment6/follow up/ referral.
6. Awakening of health consciousness.
7. Provision of healthful environment.

C. Target and achievement : Target:
1. To conduct as many health check up as possible among the School Children by increasing the number of School visit in every District.
2. To train more Medical Officers and School Teachers at every District on School Health Programme Particularly on:
a) Personal hygiene.
b) Household and School environment sanitation.
c) Detection of more Children with health problems give treatment and follow up.
